My blow dryer started blowing cold air this morning after only having it for 6 months : ( So sad because I bought the CHI hoping that I would get my money's worth AND I have the receipt, but Farouk won't take repair it or replace it because I purchased it from Nordstroms and they aren't an authorized dealer...hoping that Nordstroms will step up and take it back.
Same story as all of them. Stopped blowing hot air after a few months.Bad quality, even worse customer service !
What a surprise that after having my Chi just a little over a year (and oh the receipt? thrown away months ago) and now it is doing nothing but blowing cold air...what happened!? I don't wanna just chunk the thing...like $200.00 in the trash...and I don't have the box either. Very unsatisfied.
My husband purchased my CHI PRO LOW EMF on sale for $99 at Armstrong McCalls on 10/3/07 but gave it to me for Christmas that year. I've been extremly happy with it until it stopped working last week while I was drying my hair. I don't think its the heating element because the dryer still gets power & extremely hot -hotter than when it worked, but doesn't blow air out AT ALL -hot or cold. I've called Farouk twice and as of this year they said they don't have their service center & there is nothing they can do since its past the 1 year period. When I asked if that is the duration they expect their product to last, both times I was answered with stories of them or their spouses have had theirs 7 & 5 years. Farouk also will not recommend anywhere that can repair the dryer, so I'm now waiting on a call back from a manager (she was at lunch). We'll see how that goes, most stories I've read online aren't promising. My husband couldn't understand what was so great about a $100 dryer, but figured he'd trust me when I told him Chi was one of the best & bought it. This now retails for $179! I'm wondering if I just send it to Farouk in a box with a check if I'll get a replacement since they don't service them. Oh, & CS told me that the new ones manufactured in the USA (came out last year) now have a 2 year warranty. Seems to me they need to make some customers happy or lower their price of their product if they can't guarantee it to work longer. I only use mine for personal use, so I can't imagine trying to purchase one for professional use & being unreliable!
Mine did the same thing that all these others have done...had it for 18 months or so and then started sparking and just totally quit working. It is not worth the money you have to pay!!
I had 2 Chi blow dryers in the past year, both lasted approx. 5 months. Turned it on and it started smoking.
For the first year that I owned this hair dryer, it worked wonderfully. I took excellent care of it, storing it in the box it came in and packing it very carefully the few times I traveled. Now this morning it started smoking and sparking so I googled the problem and I see all these other terrible reviews. What a waste of my hard earned money. I will NEVER EVER again recommend CHI products to anyone.
my blowdryer just went out- i've had my chi blow dryer for 5 longgg years and used it daily, everyone i know has never had problems with theirs. i will be getting another chi-pro well worth everypenny, overall i am a very satisfied customer.
Picked this up for my wife on sale this Christmas for $120. This morning It started shooting sparks into her hair. In effect I paid $40 a month rent on a hair dryer...NEVER AGAIN!!!
Sums up the trouble. Great while it lasts. Then the heating element blows. The owners manual says that if over 1 yr old they will REPAIR it for $35 BUT when you call the number they are no longer participating in repairs and told me to "google a repair service." They know they have a longevity problem and now, they won't even let us pay them to fix it!!! GRRRRRR.
Damn it. My Chi is also blowing cold air. Thank goodness I kept the box. I am going to call this number 281.876.2000

I loved my chi hair dryer until it went out a year and a half after i bought it, the warranty only lasts a year so I was stuck with a broken very expensive hair dryer.
I got my chi dryer this last Christmas (of course as a present so I don't have the receipt). Loved it until I went to use it before work last week and it wouldn't even turn on. $130 for not even 7 months of use--good thing I had my old Revlon dryer that has lasted for years or my hair would have been crazy!BTW--don't buy them from JC Penney's
